When was your last gynecological exam and pap smear?

Cervical cancer was once a leading cause of death in the United States. However; rates have greatly declined due to increased screening by the Pap test, which can detect precancerous cells before they become cancer. The death rate of cervical cancer has decreased by 50% from 1975-2015 with the use of increased screening.

Cancer prognosis is often described as a 5-year survival rate. This tells you what percentage of women will live at least 5 years after the cancer is found. If detected, invasive cervical cancer has a 5-year survival rate of 92%. If the cancer is at a later stage and has spread to surrounding organs and lymph nodes the 5-year survival drops to 56%. If the cancer has spread to a distant part of the body the 5-year survival declines even further to 17%. Early detection is key to improved outcomes!

The American Academy of Family Physicians recommends screening for cervical cancer in women age 21-65 years every 3 years.

At Pure Life Clinic, we believe in being proactive about our care. The Pap test can be a tedious task, but we create a comfortable experience and environment for you to receive screenings.
